After being laid off in March, I finally decided to tackle all those appointments I’d been putting off. And since we’d already hit our deductible for the plan year, it felt like the perfect time—might as well make the most of it! 🤣
In just one week, I had:
- An eye exam—I actually made time for this one last year at Target Optical (because, seriously, who passes up a chance to hit the bullseye?). Tried on frames, sent Nick some photos for input, got overwhelmed, and... left without picking any. Classic.
- A dentist appointment—holy hell. I used to be religious about going every six months, but somehow it had been ten years (I’m embarrassed just typing that). Luckily, I walked away with just one cavity—but, note to self, still need to schedule that filling.
- An annual physical—which meant finally seeing Dr. Larsen again! You already know how much I love her, and I hadn’t prioritized a visit in 2024. So, yeah, I missed her!
When I arrived on April 17, 2025, our interaction was just like every other visit—familiar, warm, reassuring. Even her nurse greeted me with, "Dr. Larsen is so excited to see you today. She told me you were coming in." Umm…what? #IFeelLikeACelebrity
As we got to chatting, we inevitably landed on the big ‘M’ word: Mammogram. Since I turn 40 in July, I asked if I needed one this year. Dr. Larsen reassured me, "Naw, you can wait until next year." Relief washed over me—because I’ve heard some not-so-great things about that infamous boob clamp.
Then, she got into the physical. During the breast exam, she paused and asked, "Have you felt this before?"
No, ma’am—I had not.
She remained calm, but my mind raced. She just told me I could wait until next year for a mammogram—what does this mean now?
Because of the lump—about 2cm in size—she ordered both a mammogram and an ultrasound.
And just like that, my simple week of overdue appointments became something potentially much bigger.
